Best gaming PC 2020(Guide for Indian gamers)

What is a Gaming PC?

Due to recent pandemic, people have found new hobbies or revisiting their old ones and gaming is one of them. It is quite evident that you need a gaming PC for gaming. But what really is a gaming PC? The answer is exactly what you're thinking, "any PC that can play games is a gaming PC".

But then you'll be thinking, why do sellers advertise some specific PC as 'gaming PC'? That's because that PC is capable of running all the popular games that you've heard of. So technically a PC can be labelled as a Gaming PC if it can play any game while giving the user a smooth gaming experience. That leads to next question

Do I need a gaming PC?

Well, the answer depends on you actually. There are different types of gamers.
  • Some are just casual gamer but loyal to certain games. For example, they only play Minecraft or Counter Strike or Dota or Rocket League, etc.
  • The other type of casual gamers who don't take gaming too seriously but like to try out new games.
  • Competitive or serious gamers.
  • And last, high resolution - high graphics addicts.
All these types have different requirements. If you are the first type, you probably don't need a gaming PC to start gaming. Just any decent PC would be enough to get started. But, if you have the budget then why not get more powerful gaming PC. You never know what could come in next update. Take Minecraft for example, the game is know to run on potato PC(a PC that doesn't qualify as gaming PC, not even as powerful home/office PC) now has Ray Tracing coming, which will require a decent PC with atleast RTX 2060. You would like to try Ray Tracing, wouldn't you?
That's why you should invest a little bit more for a gaming PC if you do play games. Now you might ask

If I spend all my budget on a gaming PC, can I use it for work or do I need a separate PC?

Answer is, yes, you can use it for work as well. A decent gaming PC is a perfect allrounder. You can use it for photo editing, video editing, animation, 3d modeling and even machine learning. However, if you're making a living out of those tasks, you should get a separate specialist PC for your work, or get a custom PC that specializes at those tasks and also capable of gaming when you're free. But I'll focus on purely gaming in this post.

How much should I spend for a decent gaming PC?

Again it depends on what kind of gamer you are and type of games you play. You will have to identify the most demanding game you'll be playing and pick a PC according to the game's system requirements. If you're not that versed in PC components, then your best friend would be a website, gamesystemrequirements.com
how much should a decent gaming pc cost
Here I have given you an example of games that represent each of the system configuration levels.
  • Very low = if you have a working PC, you can play it. Average cost : anything under ₹25,000
  • Low = if you have somewhat recent PC you can play it, but better PC is recommended. Average cost ₹25,000-40,000
  • Average = a typical budget-midrange gaming PC is recommended. Average cost ₹40,000-70,000
  • High = a powerful esports grade gaming PC is recommended. Average cost : no limit.

Shopping for Gaming PC in India

If you don't know much about PC components then your first instinct would be to go to your local PC shop and ask for a gaming PC or go to Amazon or Flipkart and search for gaming PC. But I'm against that, because your local store may overcharge for PC and Amazon and Flipkart have some misleading products. Take a look at these for example

The one on the left is from Amazon and the other one is from Flipkart. I've scrapped their names to avoid any possible feud because these PC do fall into low budget gaming PC, so they're not wrong to use gaming PC in their listing. But they're terrible value. You can build a brand new PC using Ryzen 3 3200G under ₹30,000 and it'll perform way better than these two.
If you are buying pre-built PC then buy from big brands like Asus, HP, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, etc. And to save some money, buy from websites like SMC international or Bitkart. They have some pre built gaming PC with much better value than big brands and you can ask for custom builds from them according to your budget. They'll assemble the PC and ship it to you.
That's it for this guide. I wanted to including custom parts selection guide too but it will make the post too long. So I decided to write a separate post for that. So don't forget to come back to check out the next post if you're interested. Thanks for reading. Feel free to suggest the topics for future post.
