Minecraft FAQ

I know I previously wrote a similar post but this time I'll attempt to include more queries. Some big names from Indian gaming community(Sc0ut for example) have recently started playing Minecraft, so a lot of Indian gamers might be interested in playing Minecraft. While it is supposed to be suitable to all age groups of gamers, the technical aspects can get a little overwhelming.

So I'm gonna take most frequent Google queries that I can shortlist and answer them all in one place. So here we go:

Are Minecraft worlds infinite?

Technically, yes. But there are certain limits applied for players. There is an invisible wall(technically a transparent wall that you can see) X/Z ±30,000,000 that player cannot cross normally. If you manage to cross it, Minecraft will break and throw(teleport) you back inside the border. If you know how to modify the source code of the game then you can expand the world border to X/Z ±2,000,000,000 blocks.

Is Nether smaller than overworld?

If you are somewhat experienced player then you might be aware that every 1 block travelled in Nether is equal to 8 blocks travelled in overworld. Hence making it fastest mode of travel if you need to repeatedly travel to other biome. But that makes some people wonder if Nether is 1/8th of the overworld. The answer is no. Same world limits applies to Nether also, ie X/Z ±30,000,000. However, to prevent the players form using the Nether portals to cross the world border, Nether portal generation mechanics are enforced. Nether portals cannot generate beyond X/Z ±29,999,872 in the overworld.

Can Minecraft Java play with PE/Windows/Bedrock Edition?

No, Java and Bedrock(Smartphones, Windows and Consoles now use Bedrock) use two entirely different engines. So if you have a PC and you want to play with someone using a smartphone, you need to get Bedrock version for yourself. The better together update of Bedrock allows cross-platform play for all Bedrock players.

What PC do I need to run Minecraft?

According to official website, these are the minimum requirements to run Minecraft

  • Intel i3-3210 or AMD A8-7600
  • 4GB RAM
  • GPU: Integrated(Intel HD 4000 or AMD R5 series) or Dedicated(Nvidia GeForce 400 or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series) with OpenGL 4.4 support
  • HDD: 1GB
  • OS: Windows 7 or later, macOS 10.1 or later, Linux 64 bit(any distro released after 2014) OR Windows 10 for Bedrock edition.
  • Internet: Only to download game files and updates, game allows offline play
If you are not sure if your PC meets the minimum requirements, just download the free demo and try the game before purchasing. The demo version lets you play five Minecraft days(100 minutes) for free.

Can Minecraft run without Graphics card?

As stated in minimum requirements, Minecraft can run on integrated graphics of your processor. Read the requirements on previous question for more details.

Can Minecraft run on 2GB RAM or 1GB RAM?

Normally no, there are some workarounds but even if you managed to run it, it will most likely be uplayable due to low FPS. [This answer is also valid for 'can Minecraft run on 32bit OS']

Do Minecraft villagers despawn?

No, a Villager never despawns. But it can be killed by zombies in hard difficulty. So never leave your villagers unprotected.

Do Minecraft plants need light?

Not all of them(examples: Nether wart, Mushrooms, etc), but common plants(crops, trees) of overworld need light to grow.

How Minecraft seeds work?

Seed is the ID of a Minecraft world. If you create a new world, there would be an option to enter seed. If you leave it blank, a random seed will be generated. If you are following a tutorial by someone and want to play in the same Minecraft world, you can enter their world seed to follow along. Other than the loot inside chests, the world will be identical.

Does Minecraft have a story?

Minecraft is a sandbox game, a sandbox game allows a player to approach the objective in any way that they want. In Minecraft, objectives are Achievements and Advancements. And there is no official story-line of Minecraft.

Is Minecraft good for kids?

Minecraft is suitable for all age groups. If you want to nourish your kid's creativity, let them play in creative mode or peaceful difficulty in survival mode. People create impressive builds and automated farms that require a lot of planning.

Should I destroy monster spawner?

Not unless you already have found a lot of spawners for the same mob/monster. You can easily transform these dungeons into mob farms for XP/drops.

Should I kill wandering trader?

They usually despawn after some time. If he doesn't offer good trades, you can kill him for leads.

Should I kill nitwits?

Nitwits can't have a profession but it doesn't mean that you have to kill them. You can still use them for breeding. Plus if the other villagers see you killing them, they will increase the prices(if you manage to survive Iron Golem somehow).

Why Minecraft removed Herobrine?

Herobrine was just a hoax created by youtubers. However, the Minecraft team noticed the hoax and they jokingly added 'Removed Herobrine' in 1.6.6 Beta change-log.

How Minecraft End?

Like I mentioned, Minecraft is a sandbox game and there is no definitive 'end' of Minecraft. However, killing the Ender Dragon for the first time triggers credits screen, like game has ended.
